200th Anniversary Celebrations
by Brother Edward Brink, SM, Vice President for Mission and Rector, Chaminade University of Honolulu
The Hale Malia Marianist Community hosted Hui Haku (Chaminade University’s Senior Leadership Council) on Nov. 1 for a prayer service, dinner and discussion centering on what makes education at Chaminade University of Honolulu different because of our Marianist Heritage. Identical banners were placed at the entrance to Kalaepohaku on both the University side and the Saint Louis School side of campus.
Brother Edward Brink, SM, Vice President for Mission and Rector, is meeting with each academic division to distribute the new edition of Characteristics of Marianist Universities. The short presentation includes highlighting the 200th Anniversary. Brink and Brother Gary Morris, SM, Associate Professor, Fine Arts, attended a short prayer service for all students, faculty and staff at Saint Louis School in honor of the 200th Anniversary on Nov. 20. The Marianists of the Hale Malia Community will also host administrators from the Saint Louis School in January for a prayer service, meal and conversation around Marianist Education.
“The 200th anniversary of Marianist involvement in education comes at a time when Chaminade University of Honolulu has been pursuing a revision of its general education requirements and through that, emphasizing the importance of making the education we provide rooted in our Marianist tradition. The anniversary has enhanced our discussions and helped us to once again remember that we are part of a greater mission.“
