The University of Dayton’s Board of Trustees initiated the University’s celebration of 200 years of Marianist education with a prayer service during their October board meeting. At that meeting, Executive Director of Campus Ministry Crystal Sullivan highlighted that the University currently educates an amazing 10% of all Marianist students. The campus joined in the celebration with special introductions at each of the Nov. 3 Sunday Liturgies in the University’s Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.
University President Eric Spina, Ph.D., shared his thoughts on the significance of Marianist education in his blog, where he challenged our community.
“As we celebrate precisely two centuries of Marianist education in the world, I urge our students, faculty, staff, and alumni to renew our commitment to model Mary — and say ‘yes.’”
- “Yes to a philosophy of education that calls us to be community builders.”
- “Yes to a calling to advance justice and promote the common good.”
- “Yes to a respect for the dignity of all people as we pause to listen to a diversity of viewpoints and model what it means to work across differences.”
