Testimonials and Interviews — Students, Faculty, Staff and Administration: Shana Tong
Shana Tong, (M.Ed. ’08), Chaminade University
Many of us have had the privilege of graduating from Chaminade University. After completing my undergraduate degree from a public university, I found a deep sense of belonging at Chaminade while pursuing further studies. The institution exudes a unique atmosphere of community support and encouragement. The instructors not only impart knowledge but also value each student as an individual on their educational journey. This focus on personalized education has become a central theme in my roles as both an educator and an administrator and although it presents challenges at times, the rewards are immeasurable as I witness our students’ growth.
Recently I encountered a gentleman carrying a meticulously carved walking stick. This simple encounter led me to reflect on the importance of providing a solid foundation while nurturing creativity, uniqueness, and individual expression. As educators, if we can foster these qualities in our students, they can achieve self-accomplishment and the confidence to embark on their academic and faith-based journeys with unwavering strength.
My journey as an educator and now as an administrator, has been profoundly influenced by the role models who lead with heart, a lesson I learned through my experiences at Chaminade. My faith provides me hope and a positive perspective, guiding me to treat others as Jesus would desire.
