I work as a tour guide at St. Mary’s and during my tours, I walk past the characteristics of a Marianist education hung in St. Louis Hall. There is one characteristic that has stood out to me since I arrived: to educate in family spirit. College is supposed to be your home away from home. When I began my educational journey at St. Mary’s, I was scared that I would become lost amongst a sea of unfamiliar faces. I am relieved and proud to say that this fear was the farthest thing from the truth. Here, the community is unique and welcoming, ensuring that every student feels valued and a part of a family. The people I have met here have pushed me to be the best version of myself and make me feel valued for who I am. I truly believe that this warm and loving environment is a result of our collective values that are rooted in the Marianist Mission. Through programs like Zaragoza and Family Weekend, I have learned what it means to be a part of a Marianist community, how to welcome new students with the same fears I once had, and it is my goal to carry this mission throughout my future.
