At home, my parents provided me with a strong foundation in the Marianist Mission, which was further solidified during my high school years at Kellenberg Memorial on Long Island, New York. I was taught that the Blessed Mother was the vessel through which Jesus came into the world, and through that teaching I was also reminded that I bring Jesus to whomever I meet. I learned the value of humble charity and the importance of building a faith community grounded in civility, order, and respect.
When I moved thousands of miles away from home to attend Chaminade University, all of these teachings carried with me. The Chaminade Scholars as well as the Marianist Mission provided me with a deep sense of comfort, almost as if I had brought home along with me to Hawai'i. The Chaminade Scholars have us praying together on campus, working in the community, and participating in acts of charity as a faith community, which has allowed me to continue living out those values during my time at Chaminade. I get to experience firsthand how faith and action can come together to uplift others.
The Marianist Mission is something I will carry forward after graduation because it has shaped not only my education but also my character. The Marianists have been a constant in my life and a great community to be supported by; to know them is to know the Lord. I will continue striving to live with humble charity, to bring Jesus into my interactions, and to seek community wherever I go. In this way, the Marianist values will remain a guiding force throughout my life.
